Best Buddies

There was a beautiful young woman named Tola. She is studying in a public high school in their barangay. She is also an active servant in their church and always participates in any activities. At the age of 12, she already started serving in their parish.
It was May 2013. Tola is an incoming third year high school next month. Since it is still summer vacation, only the activities in the church make her busy. While Tola is helping to facilitate the kids in their Flores de Mayo, one of the church servants approached her saying, “I’m a servant in the youth ministry of our parish and we will be conducting a three-day youth camp. My sister will be joining. Would you like to come?”. Tola became interested with it so she agreed.
The youth camp came. In the first day, she went to the camp site at 6:30am for the registration. Before she was allowed to go inside their quarters, she finished first all the entry quests that were given. She found the first day a little boring but she is still looking forward for the next two days.
Their second day started so early. Their wake up time is 4:30am. The activities were already exciting. They had lots of team-building activities. As the evening came, they were given two hours to have their dinner and to prepare themselves for a program. Tola was arguing with her guy friend. “You’re a man but you can’t put up a fire? We are running out of time already. We still have not yet cooked even our rice.”. Other participants heard them. A guy approached them and said, “You need a help? I can let you borrow my stove so that you can easily cook your food. Anyway, we are already done cooking ours. So you can now use this one.”. Tola was so happy. “Really? Thanks for your help! Finally, we can now cook our dinner. By the way, what is your name?”,  she said. “I am Jay. Can I come and eat dinner with your friends?” the guy responded. It was their pleasure to eat with the one who helped them solve their problem in cooking. Since that time, they always stick together.
After the dinner, the program that night, which was called “Solidarity night”, started. In the middle of the program, the facilitators distributed candles to each of them. They were instructed to give that candle to that one person who they wanted to thank, apologize or wanted to be friends and to know more. Tola did not have an idea to whom she will give the candle. She thought she has no one to thank or apologize for. But she has someone whom she wanted to know more. So she looked for that friend. As  she was finding him, she did not know that person is also looking for her. When she finally found him in the crowd, Tola gave the candle to Jay. To her surprise, Jay also gave his candle to her. So they ended up exchanging their candles.
The third and last day came. As they bid their goodbyes, they also exchanged phone numbers and facebook accounts with their newly met friends.
Tola and Jay became close friends. As the time passes, they keep on communicating each other even if both of them became busy with their studies. Later on, they became best buddies. They even treat each other as twins. They share everything to each other.
A time came in which Jay is contacting Tola lesser. He became busy. But still, Tola understands and their closeness never faded. Whenever they talk or see each other, it is just like their first time to meet.
Two years passed and Tola already graduated in high school. When she entered college, Jay started to communicate with her again. Tola was so frustrated when she knew Jay contacted her because he was depressed. Jay broke up with his girlfriend. Tola was somewhat happy because she thought Jay was already away with the wrong person but at the same time she was also sad because of the depression of her best friend. From that time, Tola helped Jay move on from his ex-girlfriend. They see each other more often together with other friends of Jay.
Months have gone and they became ever closer with each other. It was not their usual closeness anymore. Jay then confessed his feelings to Tola. But he wants to stop it. He said, “I should stop seeing you now. I want to stop my feelings for you. I do not want to ruin our friendship. Soon, when these feelings are gone, I will be back. We will be the same like before.”.
Tola could not bear the feeling of being away from Jay. She realized she has fallen for Jay, too. So she stopped Jay from going away and told him she feels the same way, too. Since then, they started dating with each other.
After almost nine months, they became a couple officially. Tola and Jay experienced many ups and downs in their relationship. They even almost broke up because of their problems. But they never gave up. Their love prevailed.
Years passed. Still, their relationship never changed. They fell for each other over and over again every day. Jay never stopped courting Tola. Their love for each other stayed the same. They got married. Right now, they have four kids. For them, having your other half and your best friend as the same person is the best thing in the world.

The Reluctant Candidate

Last May 9, 2016, a great event made a history in the Philippines. For the first time, a candidate from Mindanao won as the president of the Philippines which led the Davaoeños and the rest of the people in Mindanao in great pride. He is the reluctant candidate, Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
A former mayor of Davao, who served for more than 22 years, President Duterte never thought of running as a president at first. People are voicing out how much they wanted the former mayor to run. President Duterte still declared he would not run as a president. But with the urge of his supporters, the was convinced and answered the calling: to lead and make a change in the Philippines.
Even with the presence of many critics and anti-Duterte personalities, the president made it through the election and was declared as the 16th president of the Republic of the Philippines. Filipinos united and selected the only reluctant candidate but a disposed leader.
Since the administration of President Duterte started, Filipinos experienced a unique way of leadership and implementation of the law. The campaign of the administration is "Tunay na pagbabago" in which was emphasizing about war against criminality and drugs.
Many allegations were thrown to President Duterte even before he was inaugurated. He was called as leader of the notorious vigilante group, the Davao Death Squad. But still, no one was able to prove the accusation. He was back then titled as "The Punisher" on the New York Times Magazine because of his actions on how he deals with criminality and drugs in his hometown, Davao City.
Recently, President Duterte was criticized on his campaign against criminality and drugs. The anti-Duterte community said that the certain campaign permits the Philippine National Police to shoot and kill the innocent, suspected, or not yet proved drug personalities. They accused the administration on the increasing cases of extra-judicial killings.
The families of the alleged drug personalities emphasized the brutal acts of the policemen who are conducting the buy-bust operations. They said that the policemen shoot the alleged drug personalities without declaring the suspect's right to explain themselves. Report says, the policemen are just defending themselves from the armed suspects.
President Duterte did not want to be the president of the Philippines. He just responded to the supplication of the nation. People are the ones who have put him on the position on where he is now. In a short span of time, he already made a big difference. Even though he is classified as "The Punisher" and was known by having an "Iron fist", still, the people entrusted their future to a 71-year old simple man from Davao City who never dreamed of anything other than serving the nation what is right and to change the way of living in the Philippines.

Subject: Avoid photocopying machines without operators especially if it is not lunch break

I have noticed that sometimes the photocopying machine is not available for the users because there is no operator even if it is not lunch time. Thus, it forces the users to go outside of the campus just to photocopy their papers. The photocopying machines could not serve its purpose any longer.
Next time, will you please not leave the photocopying machines? If you have any activity which makes you leave it, find someone who will relieve and take your responsibility in operating the machine. In that way, it would always be accessible any time to the users especially if it is not yet lunch break.
